Geo Prizm Engines
The following are replacement engines for the Geo Prizm. While most Geo Prizm engines will run for upwards of 200,000 miles, sometimes they die early and you have to replace the whole Geo Prizm engine!
The 1st Generation Geo Prizm Engines
From 1989 though 1992 the first generation of Geo Prizm’s had 1.6L 4A-FE I4 engine or an optional 1.6L 4A-GE I4 engine. These engines were capable of putting out 105 horsepower.
The sporty GSi versions that were available from 1990 – 1992 had a more powerful 130 horsepower engine.
The 2nd Generation Geo Prizm Engines
In 1993 the Geo Prizm got an overhaul that gave it more room, and allowed for an optional larger engine. The stock engine continued to be a 1.6L 4A-FE I4 with 105 horsepower.
Geo Prizm LSi models had a more powerful 1.8L 7A-FE I4 engine that could push 115 horsepower.
These engine options ran though the 1997 model year.
The 3rd Generation Prizm Engine
The 3rd generation Prizm ran from 1998 to 2002 and was sold as the Chevy Prizm. They were equipped with Toyota’s 1.8L 1ZZ-FE I4 engine. This more powerful engine gave the car 125 horsepower.
From 2000 to 2002 the engines included Toyota’s VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence) technology.
